Founded
in 1984
Tenecor was originally founded in 1984 as Plastech Plastics. The company
manufactured a variety of acrylic products, including store display
fixtures, food service equipment, and aquariums.
Focus on Aquariums
Market
As the demand for acrylic aquariums grew, all production facilities at
Plastech were eventually dedicated to serving this market. All other
product lines were eliminated by 1987. Products were distributed through
an independent firm under a private label agreement. With the
termination of this agreement in 1988, the company was renamed Tenecor
and began marketing its products to the wholesale aquarium market under
the brand name Tenecor. Incorporation followed in early 1989.
By 1991, Tenecor had established a
firm market presence throughout the Eastern and Western U.S., which at
that time were the major markets for acrylic aquariums. Breakthrough
products introduced by Tenecor included the use of Day-glo colored
acrylic in small decorative aquariums, integration of internal aquarium
filtration systems, adaptation of new compact fluorescent lighting
technology for aquarium use, and the introduction of complete designer
quality packages for the retail market.
Tenecor sold to
CMN Plastics, Inc.
CMN Plastics, Inc. acquired Tenecor's assets, including all of the
production equipment, processes and brand name in April of 1994. All key
personnel stayed with the company. CMN
Plastics, Inc. brought to Tenecor the capital needed to update the
production equipment, hire additional engineering and marketing
personnel, and develop long term strategies for growth. An updated
computerized management system has been installed, along with CAD/CAM
systems supporting new CNC machining equipment. CMN Plastics, Inc. has
installed a complete cabinet shop and a large heat forming and annealing
oven to support the aquarium product line. CMN management brought with
it over 25 years of engineering and manufacturing experience, primarily
in the aerospace composites industry. This experience was gained running
successful manufacturing operations in 3 countries.
Quick Results
Plans were established to immediately capitalize and expand upon
Tenecor's major strengths of technical expertise, customer service and
large custom aquarium capabilities. Implementation of these plans
resulted in a dramatic (40+%) increase in Tenecor's customer base and a
22% sales increase in the first full year of ownership by CMN Plastics,
Inc.
Tenecor Today

quality acrylic aquariums in the U.S. market. Sales continue to outpace
